Right now, both Labor and the Liberals are allowing too much funding to go to private education and training institutions. Our public school funding system is broken.
We want kids to be able to get the most out of school. The Greens are fighting for public schools that meet everyone’s needs, including right here in Macnamara!
Yesterday I joined Adam Bandt, Leader of the Greens to announce that the Greens will push for $12 million in funding for St Kilda Primary School to build a new Indoor School Community Hub.
Despite being home to over 400 students, St Kilda Primary School is one of the largest schools in the area without an indoor recreation space. Following a huge community campaign led by local parents with 2500+ signatures, we’re joining the fight to ensure St Kilda kids have the school infrastructure to get the most out of their education.
Teachers and parents have been crying out for an indoor community hub, and it’s time for Labor to listen.
We know our public school system is chronically underfunded, and Labor is choosing to look the other way. Every year, governments short-change public schools $6.5 billion. In the decade since the Gonski review, government funding to private schools has increased at double the rate of public schools.
With more Greens in parliament we’ll be able to really fight for the things our community needs, like a great public school system.
